The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for Cape Cod and parts of the South Shore, ahead of Thursday’s nor’easter.

Blizzard warnings are issued when sustained winds or frequent gusts are expected to exceed 35 mph with considerable amounts of snow falling or blowing throughout the designated time period. The warning, posted Wednesday afternoon, will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in Southeast Coastal Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands, and Block Island, Rhode Island.

The National Weather Service is advising residents in these areas to stay indoors, as visibility will be low and may reach whiteout conditions.
