We didn’t break another weather record, but we have good news
The next two weeks look great.
People enjoyed the record-breaking weather on Boston Common on Wednesday.
It looks like Boston weather will have the luck of the Irish this St. Patrick’s Day.
“For at least the next two weeks, we’re likely to stay above normal [temperatures],’’ said Bill Simpson, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Taunton.
The normal temperatures for this time of year are in the 40s. We’ve seen weather in the 60s this week, and broke a record by climbing to 77 degrees on Wednesday.
Boston didn’t break another record on Thursday, but other New England cities did.
Providence hit 71 degrees, breaking its previous record of 69 degrees set in 1977. And Hartford hit 71 as well, breaking its previous record of 70 set in 2006, Simpson said.
Simpson said the sun made all the difference in those cities. In contrast, Boston saw clouds and rain on Thursday. At 1:15 p.m., Boston registered 66 degrees, falling short of the 71 degree record set in 1878.
“We won’t make it,’’ said Simpson about the record.
But it’s still a welcome warmth. Does this mean spring is here? Simpson knows better than that.
While everyone was celebrating Wednesday’s record, Simpson said, “I threw a little fly in the ointment by saying, ‘That doesn’t mean winter is over.’’’
