Rhode Island film ‘Infinitely Polar Bear’ is a Sundance hit
One of the hits at the Sundance Film Festival — which runs through Sunday in Park City, Utah — has been “Infinitely Polar Bear,’’ the movie that director Maya Forbes shot in Rhode Island last year. The film, which stars Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana as a couple going through a tough time, started production last April. After its Sundance debut over the weekend, the Boston Globe’s Ty Burr (who is always right, right?) tweeted that the film was a “charming, moving tale of ’70s bipolar Boston dad, played to fallen-WASP perfection by Mark Ruffalo.’’ Variety’s Justin Chang called it “intimate yet expansive, clear-eyed yet deeply personal.’’ That’s great news for local actors involved with the project. CP Casting, which searched for local talent for the film, told us that Boston and Rhode Island-area cast members include twins Uatchet Jin Juch and Nekhebet Kum Juch, Mark Cartier, Alicia Love (of Mix 104.1 fame), Manoah Angelo, H. Tod Randolph, Georgia Lyman, and Muriel Gould. . . . Also at Sundance was Milton’s own Jenny Slate, who plays a stand-up comedian in the Gillian Robespierre-directed “Obvious Child.’’ That one’s getting good reviews too.
