Donnie Wahlberg on how Menino helped make ‘Boston’s Finest’ a reality
Donnie Wahlberg, creator of the TNT cop show “Boston’s Finest,’’ sat down for a video chat with Joel Idelson, host of a Web series called #AFewGoodMinutes, to talk about how Wahlberg enlisted now-former Boston mayor Tom Menino’s help to make his show happen. Wahlberg said he called his brother Bob, who was friends with a top Menino aide, and the next thing he knew he was sitting down with the longtime mayor. “Mayor Menino,’’ a coat-and-tie-clad Wahlberg says in the video, shaking his head, “he’s just awesome. I’m very sad to see him go.’’ He said it irked him when a spotlight shined on Boston and the rest of the country poked fun at Menino. “That’s our guy. We can talk about Mayor Menino, you don’t talk about Mayor Menino!’’ And he said Menino heard Wahlberg’s pitch for the TV show and had a simple response: “Make the city proud.’’
