Mark Wahlberg and his mom are, in fact, speaking to each other
During an appearance the other day on “Live! With Kelly and Michael,’’ Mark Wahlberg made a curious comment to hosts Michael Strahan and Kelly Ripa. “My mom’s not speaking to me right now,’’ the 42-year-old Dorchester native said. “It’s been like that since day one.’’ Keep in mind: Wahlberg was promoting his latest movie, “Lone Survivor,’’ and sometimes actors in that situation will say something provocative just to get attention. Well, it worked. So we called Wahlberg’s mother, Alma, to ask why she isn’t talking to the youngest of her nine children. “There’s a thing in my family,’’ she told us, laughing. “Whoever I’m with is my favorite, and everyone in the family knows that.’’ The matriarch said that during a recent taping of a reality show focused on the family’s Hingham burger restaurant, Wahlburgers, her son Donnie called. “He said to me, ‘Ma, you told Paul he was your favorite? I thought you said I was your favorite.’ ’’ Alma said it’s “strictly a joke,’’ and she’s on fine terms with Mark. (They seemed to be getting along great at a “Lone Survivor’’ screening last weekend.) Asked if she’s been out yet to see the enormous house he and wife Rhea Durham are building, she said she hasn’t. “But I heard it’s absolutely beautiful,’’ she said. The 30,000-square-foot French manor is designed by architect Richard Landry, who also planned Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen’s sprawling LA abode.
