Man sustains life-threatening stab wounds in Dorchester domestic incident; girlfriend also hurt

A Dorchester man sustained life threatening injuries during what Boston police are calling an act of domestic violence that played out in a Savin Hill residential building Sunday afternoon.

Police said they were responded to a unit in residential condo at 400 Savin Hill Ave at 12:41 p.m. Inside, they discovered the man and a woman described by neighbors as the man’s girlfriend. Both were bleeding from stab wounds, police said.

The man was rushed to Boston Medical Center and the woman, whose condition is unknown, was taken to Tufts Medical Center, according to Boston Police Officer Nicole Grant, a department spokesman. Their names were not released.

One woman who lives on the same floor as the victims said she saw the man being placed into an ambulance on a stretcher, while the woman, who was covered in blood, boarded a second ambulance on her own.

The neighbor, who withheld her name for reasons of safety, described the two as a couple in their 30’s who are known to argue loudly. Police have been called to their apartment on several occasions, she said.

“They don’t fight all the time, but when they do fight, they really fight,’’ the woman said.

Police referred to the stabbing incident as a case of domestic assault and battery.

No one has been charged, and police said the incident remains under investigation.
