Mark Wahlberg sued for sampling song way back when
Mark Wahlberg
is among a slew of artists being sued for sampling a song without authorization. TheWrap.com reports that the actor formerly known as Marky Mark is named in a suit filed in Illinois this week by Sylvester Thompson — a.k.a. Syl Johnson — whose 1967 song “Different Strokes’’ has been sampled numerous times. Others named in the suit include Usher, Run-D.M.C., and Public Enemy. Wahlberg, whose brother Donnie is also a defendant, sampled the tune in “The Last Song on Side B.’’ The complaint seeks to prohibit future samples of the song, and unspecified damages.
