Pats player Matthew Slater honored with Ron Burton Community Service Award
The Aaron Hernandez story grows grimmer by the day — Rolling Stone magazine claims the former Patriots tight end was a heavy user of angel dust — but the team honored one of the good guys at its annual kickoff event at Gillette Stadium this week. Matthew Slater, the 27-year-old wide receiver/special teams ace, won the Ron Burton Community Service Award, joining a club that includes Vince Wilfork, Jerod Mayo, Joe Andruzzi, Matt Light, and Zoltan Mesko. Ron Burton’s widow, JoAnn
, was there to make the presentation with team owner Robert Kraft.
