Red Line service is disrupted as police search for bank robber
MBTA service on the Red Line was disrupted today as police pursued a bank robbery suspect.
State Police assisted Cambridge police in the pursuit, which halted MBTA service at the Charles/MGH station for almost a half-hour, police said.
At 3:03 p.m. Cambridge police received a report of a bank robbery on Main Street. A white male, approximately 35 years old and about 5 feet 8 inches tall, robbed a bank of an unknown sum of money, said police spokesman Dan Riviello.
The suspect gave the teller a note demanding money and left without showing any weapons, Riviello said.
Cambridge police requested assistance from State Police, who provided nine cruisers.
Train service was stopped at the Charles/MGH station so police could search for the suspect. They were unable to find him and left the scene at 3:40 p.m., said Lieutenant Dan Richards, a State Police spokesman.
