Bulger associate Pat Nee has a role on new Discovery reality show
Unbothered or maybe unaware that two previous South Boston-based reality shows tanked badly, the Discovery Channel is producing yet another. This one, called “Saint Hoods,’’ is about bookies in Southie, Roslindale, and Dorchester as they vie for a piece of the lucrative sports-gambling pie. According to the network, the show’s cast of characters will include Pat Nee, a former associate of gangster Whitey Bulger
. (A man of many talents, Nee is also the coauthor of a book titled “A Criminal and an Irishman: The Inside Story of the Boston Mob.’’) But this won’t be a reality show in the strictest sense. “Some identifying information and property has been changed in the series and some scenes have been dramatized,’’ says a press release about the show. If “Saint Hoods’’ attracts even a few viewers it will have fared better than A&E’s “Southie Rules’’ and VH1’s “Wicked Single.’’
