Spring Fling in Somerville

Union Square went to the dogs this Sunday as som|dog hosted its first Spring Fling community event. The event featured dog-focused vendors, music, food, and fun doggy costumes to celebrate everything canine.
Dogs and people alike enjoyed Union Square in the great afternoon weather.

Siberian Husky Kaya, 5, showed off her blue eyes. Owner Cristina Goldstein of Somerville said som|dog did a great job organizing the event. “I love it! They should have it every year,’’ she said.

Suzaluna showcased their handmade dog toys and personalized ceramic petware.

The Ryan Taylor Band played a live set during the event.

Kyla, left, 8, and Lucy, 4, got to know one another at the Spring Fling. Kyla is a cocker spaniel/lab mix and Lucy is a mini dachshund.

Julie Polvinen of Zen Animal Massage provided massages for furry attendees. She said that animals benefit from massages as much as people do, and they are helpful for relaxation, rejuvenation, and rehabilitation.

Max, 1 ½ years old, was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Arkansas by Last Hope K9 Rescue. He is currently staying with a foster family and is available for adoption.

Toro, a 2-year-old French bulldog, mugged for the camera in his snazzy hat.

Faust, 6, is a retired racing greyhound from Florida. He enjoys sporting a punk-rock look in his retirement.

Autumn, 10, got her face painted by artist Jennifer Connolly at som|dog’s kiddie corner.

Bare Naked Dog Bakery allowed dogs to sample their dog treats while owners viewed their organic, all-natural ingredients.

KickAss Cupcakes sold pupcakes, a carob-nut muffin topped with peanut butter and wishbones.

American Echoes played a live set during the event.

Some pet owners hoisted their pets to give them a better vantage point.

Multiple dogs participated in the fashion show and “best-dressed’’ competition.
