About 20 people evacuated from S. Boston homes due to gas leak
Roughly 20 people were evacuated from their South Boston homes because of a gas leak just after 9:30 this morning, the Boston Fire Department said.
Contractors for National Grid were working in the middle of East Third Street and hit a line, releasing gas into the atmosphere, spokesman Steve MacDonald said.
No one was injured and there was no imminent danger, MacDonald said. The residents were evacuated as a precaution.
The company was on the scene working to repair the leak just after 10 a.m., MacDonald said.
