Roundup: St. Bonaventure sinks UMass

Eric Mosley scored a career-high 39 points and St. Bonaventure set a season high for points in defeating the UMass men’s basketball team, 99-94, Wednesday night at Olean, N.Y.

Mosley shot 12 of 18, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range.

Chris Johnson added 22 points and Demitrius Conger 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Bonnies (12-13, 5-7 Atlantic 10).

St. Bonaventure led, 38-31, at halftime but UMass took a 57-56 lead with 12:43 left. Yousso Ndoye put the Bonnies up, 91-90, with 1:12 left.

Chaz Williams led the Minutemen (16-9, 6-6) with 26 points and 12 assists. Terrell Vinson added 20 points.

BU 79, Albany 69 — D.J. Irving and John Papale scored 18 points each on 4-of-7 shooting from 3-point range as the Terriers (16-11, 10-4 America East) won their fifth in a row, topping the Great Danes (19-9, 8-6) at Case Gym.

Dom Morris finished with 16 points and nine rebounds, and Maurice Watson Jr. had 11 points and 10 assists.

Mike Black’s 21 points led Albany.

Syracuse 84, Providence 59 — James Southerland scored 20 points, Michael Carter-Williams had 15 points and 12 assists, and the No. 8 Orange (22-4, 10-3 Big East) powered past the Friars (14-12, 6-8) in Syracuse, N.Y.

Providence guard Vincent Council had 15 points and seven assists to become the Big East’s all-time assists leader with 431 — eclipsing ex-Syracuse star Sherman Douglas’s record of 426.

Lafayette 79, Holy Cross 76 — Tony Johnson scored 20 points, hitting a 3-pointer with four seconds left as the Leopards (14-14, 7-4 Patriot League) came back from 13 points down to beat the Crusaders (11-15, 3-8) in Worcester.

Xavier 55, Rhode Island 42 — Travis Taylor scored 13 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as the Musketeers (16-10, 9-4 Atlantic 10 Conference) knocked off the Rams (8-17, 3-9) in Kingston, R.I.

Xavier Munford led URI with 15 points.

Vermont 73, Maine 61 — Brian Voelkel had 16 rebounds and 10 assists, and Sandro Carissimo’s 16 points led the Catamounts (17-9, 10-4 America East) over the Black Bears (11-16, 6-8) in Burlington, Vt.

Clancy Rugg added 14 points, Luke Apfeld 13 and Brendan Kilpatrick 12 for Vermont.

Zarko Valjarevic led Maine with 14 points.

Hartford 49, UNH 44 — Mark Nwakamma scored 12 points and Nate Sikma 11 as the Hawks (15-12, 8-6 America East) held off the Wildcats (7-18, 3-10) in West Hartford, Conn.

Chandler Rhoads scored 16 points for UNH.

Women’s basketball

Charlotte 79, UMass 60 — Ny Hammonds scored 17 points, Jai Forney had 16, and Jennifer Hailey 15 to spur the 49ers (21-4, 10-1 Atlantic 10) past the Minutewomen (3-23, 1-10) at the Mullins Center in Amherst.

Jasmine Watson led UMass with 14 points.

Holy Cross 69, Lafayette 58 — Amy Lepley scored a season-high 23 points, Brisje Malone had 15, and Alex Smith added 13 to lead the Crusaders (14-12, 6-5 Patriot League) past the Leopards (11-15, 4-7) in Easton, Pa.

UNH 51, Hartford 49 — Kelsey Hogan scored 15 points, including three free throws in the last 89 seconds, as the Wildcats (9-15, 4-8 America East) edged the Hawks (17-9, 8-5) in Durham, N.H.

Women’s hockey

BU 6, UNH 0 — Jenelle Kohanchuk had two goals and an assist to lead the No. 4 Terriers (21-5-3, 16-2-1 Hockey East) over the Wildcats (13-15-3, 9-8-2) at Walter Brown Arena.

Isabel Menard, Rebecca Russo, Dakota Woodworth, and Shannon Doyle also scored.

Kerrin Sperry stopped 22 shots for the shutout to improve to 17-4-3 on the season.
