A series of car crashes on Interstate 93 causes heavy traffic heading north

A series of car crashes this afternoon which occurred within minutes of each other have resulted in heavy traffic on I-93 northbound, State Police officials said.

The three separate crashes were in the area of Milton and Quincy in less than 15 minutes, said State Police spokesman Todd Nolan.

The first was a four-car crash which around 12:45 p.m., Nolan said. Two people were taken to Boston Medical Center and were expected to survive.

Minutes later, a motorcyclist crashed his bike but was not injured. It was unknown whether that crash was related to the first.

The last crash, which involved two cars, injured one person who was taken to Boston Medical Center.
