Revere woman charged with making bomb threat about JetBlue plane leaving Logan
A Revere woman was arrested Tuesday on a charge that she falsely reported in March that explosives were on board a JetBlue Airways flight that took off from Logan International Airport, authorities said.
Nicole Anna Miller, 23, made her initial appearance in federal court in Boston on Tuesday on a charge stemming from the March 12 incident, which resulted in the plane with 83 people on board being diverted to Buffalo, the US attorney’s office said in a statement.
She is due back in court for a detention hearing on Friday.
It was not immediately clear who is representing Miller or if she entered a plea on Tuesday to a single count of making aircraft-related false reports or threats.
According to the criminal complaint filed in the case, Miller called JetBlue repeatedly that morning and informed the airline that a passenger, whom she identified as her cousin, brought explosives onto Flight 923, which was bound for Chicago.
“Oh my God, you guys are going to be sued, it’s not even funny,’’ Miller said in one call, according to the complaint. “Ok let her get on the plane and then you guys will have a million dollar lawsuit against you, that’s fine. I just hope she doesn’t blow up the plane but that’s o.k.’’
She said later said something was about to go off on the aircraft and added at one point, “please tell me the plane was stopped, my name is Nicole, my cousin is going through a lot of things right now, she is not thinking clearly, she is psychotic, she is very suicidal.’’
No explosives or weapons were found on the plane, the complaint states, and investigators determined that Miller was upset about the passenger’s travel plans.
