‘Ted’ celebrated; Seth MacFarlane purchases Carl Sagan papers for Library of Congress
While he awaits the release of “Ted,’’ director Seth MacFarlane is making news. The New York Times reports that the RISD grad who’s famous for his crudely humorous TV creations “Family Guy,’’ ’’American Dad!’’ and “The Cleveland Show’’ has donated dough to the Library of Congress so it can purchase the personal papers of celebrated scientist/astronomer Carl Sagan. The amount of the donation was not disclosed, but the papers fill more than 800 filing-cabinet drawers and include correspondence with other scientists, drafts of Sagan’s academic articles, and screenplay drafts for the movie “Contact,’’ according to the Times. “All I did was write a check, but it’s something that was, to me, worth every penny,’’ MacFarlane told the AP. “He’s a man whose life’s work should be accessible to everybody.’’ Meanwhile, if you want the scoop on the filming of “Ted,’’ you should see it with the crew from Boston Casting, who are hosting a screening at the Loews Boston Common on Friday. Tickets are $25, which also covers an after-party at Estate. “Ted,’’ which was shot around Boston last year, features plenty of local folks. Boston faces in the film (besides Mark Wahlberg) include NECN anchor Mike Nekitas, who plays himself; local actresses Phyllis Lynn and Laura Pizzuti; and actor Tom Mariano (cousin of “Boston Rob.’’)
