Three men are shot on Columbia Road in Dorchester

Three young men were shot Monday night on Columbia Road in Dorchester and are expected to survive their injuries, police said.

The men were shot in the 500 block of the street at about 6:55 p.m., Boston police Superintendent Kenneth Fong said at the scene.

Two of the victims are 19 and one is 21, and all three were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, a police spokesman said. No arrests had been made as of about 11 p.m. Monday.

Police had taped off nearly an entire block of one side of Columbia Road at about 7:30 p.m. while they investigated.

Sabrina Mitchell, 36, said she was sitting across the street on her porch when she heard at least six shots. She said she looked up and saw one young man collapse from an apparent gunshot wound.

Mitchell said she then shouted at another young man who was running away.

“I’m screaming, ‘Why are you running, why did you do that? The police [are] on their way,’’ Mitchell said. “He started jetting.’’

Mitchell said she also told her 7-year-old daughter to come up the steps onto the porch when she heard the gunfire.

“I got scared, because I knew it wasn’t just fireworks,’’ Mitchell said.

She also expressed shock that someone would fire at a group of people before dark.

“You can’t shoot somebody in broad daylight and get away with it,’’ Mitchell said.

Josefa Lopes, 34, said she heard her car alarm go off on Columbia and saw blood smeared on the back of her vehicle when she went outside.

“Nervous,’’ she said when asked how she felt. “Fifteen years [living here], first time something happened like this.’’

Matthew Dargon, 52, of Dorchester, said he heard several shots when he was inside a nearby church and later saw two of the victims on the street, one suffering from a leg wound and one who was shot in the arm.
