Woman charged in South Boston stabbing will get psychiatric evaluation
The arraignment of a 20-year-old homeless woman charged in a fatal stabbing in South Boston was postponed today, so the defendant can receive a psychiatric evaluation.
Sara Kelly, who was arrested Friday and charged with stabbing a 38-year-old woman in the Old Colony housing development, will instead appear in court July 6, after a 20-day evaluation. A court psychiatrist testified that Kelly suffers from several mental health issues.
On Friday, police were called to 242 East Ninth St. around 8:30 p.m. for a report of a person stabbed. The victim, who was not named by police, was taken to Boston Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
A woman at the scene on Friday, Hayley Nee, 18, said the victim was her mother, Shannon McCormick.
