He had no problem playing a Brady fan
Growing up in Quincy, Mike Mitchell
was an enormous Pats fan. So when someone his sketch group at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles asked if he’d like to shoot a “Funny or Die’’ video with Tom Brady, the answer was easy. The video, a companion piece to the widely circulated “Funny or Die’’ clip the QB did for Under Armour, is a faux behind-the-scenes sketch featuring Mitchell as an obsessed super fan assigned to take care of Brady while he’s shooting the Under Armour spot. (Google it, it’s funny.) In the video, Mitchell, dressed like Brady, stutters as he introduces himself to his hero. “If people get too close to you, weirdos who are big fans or something like that, let me know, and I’ll get them away from ya,’’ Mitchell offers, repeatedly touching Brady’s shoulder. The irony, of course, is that Mitchell is actually a big Brady fan. “I really do love the Patriots so it was easy to pretend to be so nervous because he’s a legend,’’ Mitchell, 29, told us this week. In the video, the doughy Mitchell asks Brady to autograph a few items, including his belly and a bra for his mother. Mitchell’s favorite moment was when Brady threw him a football in a parking lot. “It was like something he would do on the field,’’ he said. “It was great. . . . You’re afraid when you meet someone you really look up to, but when it turns out that they’re awesome people, it’s just a really great feeling.’’ Mitchell hopes this isn’t the peak of his acting career, but if it is, that’s OK. “I feel like this could be the biggest thing I ever do, filming with Tom Brady.’’
