Mattapan man is charged in Lynn shooting

A Mattapan man is to be arraigned today in Lynn District Court on charges of shooting a 19-year-old in Lynn Wednesday evening, said police.

Terrence Johnson, 29, will face charges of assault with intent to murder.

Police said that at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, a Lynn man was shot in the torso on South Common Street near Shepard Street. He was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Johnson allegedly led police on a brief pursuit before he was arrested.

Lynn and State Police are investigating the shooting. Lynn police Lieutenant Chris Kelly said the shooting may be linked to gang violence.
