Dunkin’ is unveiling ‘Men In Black 3’ donuts, Baskin-Robbins to expand in the UK
Dunkin’ Donuts is going Hollywood — again.
The Canton-based coffee-and-baked-goods chain is promoting new menu items with tie-ins to “Men In Black 3,’’ a Sony Pictures movie that is set to arrive in theaters later this month, and TV viewers can expect to see soon a Dunkin’ ad that incorporates some of the movie’s themes and images.
According to a company spokeswoman, this is the second time the chain has incorporated a Hollywood movie into its marketing efforts. Last year, Dunkin’ had a similar promotion using the “Captain America’’ movie. Dunkin’s sister chain, Baskin-Robbins, is also using “Men In Black 3’’ to market some new items on its ice cream menu.
In Dunkin’s case, customers at participating stores can expect to see the “Undercover Black Cocoa Donut, a star-shaped yeast donut filled with brownie batter butter creme and topped with chocolate icing and star sprinkles,’’ a company press release said. Then there’s the Chocolate Lunarmax Donut, “a glazed chocolate cake donut with rich chocolate icing drizzle and star sprinkles.’’
Of course, the true devotee of the dessert trolley can also pick up some Lunar Cheesecake from Baskin-Robbins, part of the “Men in Black 3’’ menu additions. (In the words of Baskin-Robbins, this item features “green and white cheesecake ice cream loaded with cheesecake bits and wrapped up in a crunchy Graham cracker ribbon.’’)
Top an Undercover Black Cocoa Donut from Dunkin’ with some Baskin-Robbins Lunar Cheesecake ice cream, and the discerning theater goer should just about be ready for a “Men In Black 3’’ movie experience.
In a separate press release, Baskin-Robbins announced plans to expand its presence in the UK. The chain said it is looking to nearly double its number of locations in the UK with the addition of 80 new free-standing restaurants over the next three years.
Worldwide, Baskin-Robbins has more than 6,700 locations in nearly 50 countries.
