New Hampshire State Trooper rescues man from fiery car crash in Andover
A New Hampshire State Police Trooper was injured Sunday night rescuing a driver who was trapped after his car crashed in Andover and later burst into flames, according to a statement from New Hampshire State Police.
Trooper Scott Frye was headed north on Interstate 93 in Andover with New Hampshire Governor John Lynch and his wife when they saw a car crash and catch on fire.
As Lynch called 911, a man believed to be an off-duty Manchester New Hampshire firefighter, whose name was not available, helped Frye as he climbed into the burning car to rescue the 62-year-old man trapped inside, according to Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio.
The man was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, he said.
The driver may have been involved in an incident of “road rage’’ with a second vehicle just before the crash, said Procopio in an email. He said witnesses described the second vehicle as a red pickup truck.
Frye was treated and released at a local hospital for smoke and chemical inhalation injuries.
Massachusetts State police are investigating the accident and potential charges, said Procopio.
