New Hampshire man charged with fatally shooting 31-year-old Marlborough man while hunting last November
A New Hampshire man who allegedly fatally shot a Massachusetts man last November while hunting in Hudson, N.H. has been charged with homicide.
A grand jury indicted Wade Holmes, 49, of Lisbon, with negligent homicide and reckless shooting in the death of Kenneth Brunelle, 31, of Marlborough, Mass.
Brunelle was unarmed and walking with his father and brother on Nov. 9, opening day of firearm deer-hunting season, when he was shot once and instantly killed.
In a phone interview Saturday, Brunelle’s stepmother, Sharon Brunelle, said that the pain from the death is still fresh.
“It’s hard because [Holmes] may never see jail time,’’ said Brunelle, of Sharon. “Where’s the justice? The most he’ll probably do is a couple of years. He’ll still have a life.’’
According to the website of the New Hampshire General Court, however, both charges are felonies and carry sentences of up to seven years.
Brunelle said Holmes was about 45 to 50 feet from Kenneth Brunelle and had an unobstructed view when he fired the shot.
“How did he not know what he was shooting at?’’ Brunelle said. “His father was so close that he felt the muzzle blast from the shot.’’
A telephone number listed for Wade was not in service.
The Libson police and New Hampshire Fish and Game Department were not available Saturday to provide additional details on the incident.
