N.H. postal worker charged with spanking 10-year-old boy in mail truck
A 43-year-old US Postal Service worker was arrested by Manchester, N.H., police this morning after a group of parents filed a report claiming that he spanked a 10-year-old boy whom he let play inside his postal truck, police said.
Frank Saucier of Tyngsborough, Mass.,was arrested around 9 a.m. and is being held on $5,000 cash bail on a charge of simple assault for spanking the boy, police said. Police said they are investigating further.
“We’re looking at behavior since September of last year,’’ Manchester Police Sergeant Craig Rousseau said. “Some parents realized that some of their children were spending an inordinate amount of time with the mailman in the neighborhood, so they asked their kids about it, and that’s when the information came up and the report was filed.’’
Rousseau said Saucier allowed children to “play house’’ in his mail truck in the area of Conant and Dyson streets after school.
“He would park his truck there and walk the route from there,’’ Rousseau said. “He would then return to his vehicle, usually about time school getting out, and the kids would seek him out and his mail truck.’’
Rousseau said that when police learned of the allegations against Saucier, the department notified the US Postal Service, which removed Saucier from that route. Rousseau said Saucier could face additional charges.
“The behavior by Mr. Saucier is suspicious, out of the ordinary, and something we are concerned about,’’ he said. “We are continuing to investigate and talk with families in that area, and there is the potential for future charges.’’
