Man arrested in Red Line indecent assault

A 26-year-old man is facing charges that he indecently assaulted a woman after her Red Line train left Alewife Station.

Police are wondering if other people recognize Eric Howes.

Eric Howes, whose last known address was in Holliston, was charged with indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older. The victim was a 21-year-old woman.

Howes was arrested Tuesday at the Long Island homeless shelter in Boston.

Detectives, who were familiar with Howes, said he was the suspect in a previous “lewd and lascivious’’ crime on MBTA property that is currently under investigation. They also released his mugshot to the public, asking if anyone recognized him from previous incidents.

The woman in the attack, which happened at about 10:45 a.m., said she at first believed that Howes had urinated on her, but later realized he had ejaculated.

The woman chased after the man as he left the train at Davis Square Station, but the subway doors closed. She alighted from the train at the next stop, Porter, and called police.

Police said that when they interviewed Howes he admitted that he had done what the woman alleged and agreed to provide them with a DNA specimen.
