Pauly Shore plays Pauly-tics in new show

Political comedy isn’t Pauly Shore’s stock in trade. He’s much better known for the slacker persona he perfected in such fine films as “Encino Man’’ and “Bio-Dome.’’ So why is Shore working on a politically themed special for Showtime? Because, he says, there’s an election coming up – and it might be funny. “I want to get (Bill) O’Reilly and Nancy Grace and Anderson Cooper and a bunch of other pundits and lobbyists and, you know, rub their bodies,’’ he told us. (So far, he’s only got Juan Williams and maybe former “SNL’’ cast member Darrell Hammond on board.) Shore is promising to preview some of the material from “Pauly-tics’’ when he performs Friday at the Wilbur Theatre. Saying he’s neither left nor right — “I just don’t like the whole tax-the-rich thing’’ — Shore is eager for the fall the campaign, when he expects former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney — “dude’s got a lot of cash’’ — to relentlessly attack Obama. What should be the president’s response? “He has to come back at him with a rap, the ‘Obama got Osama’ rap,’’ advises the comedian. Shore suspects he’d be a better leader than either of them. “To start with, I’d cut expenses,’’ he says. “I don’t need the White House. I stay at the Marriott Courtyard and I fly Southwest.’’ A big fan of MSNBC’s prison series “Lockup,’’ Shore also thinks inmates should be made to defend their country overseas. “All they’re doing is training to fight anyway,’’ he says. “Look at them. Their bodies are beautiful.’’ We suggested he stick to movies, but then remembered we’ve seen some of his movies. “Whose movies are better, mine or Adam Sandler’s?’’ Shore said. “Be honest.’’ Talk about setting the bar low.
