F-16 fighter jets make emergency landing at Cape Cod Coast Guard station, causing a noisy morning
Early this morning, four F-16 fighter jets made an emergency landing at the Cape Cod Coast Guard Air Station because two of the jets had engine trouble, according to Coast Guard officials.
The first two jets landed about 8 a.m. and the second two landed just after 9 a.m. But first, they circled the area for about an hour and a half.
Typically, if a jet is in an emergency situation, “you burn down the fuel so you’re landing with a little lighter aircraft,’’ said Coast Guard Captain David Throop.
He could not say when the jets would take off again or comment on where they were headed.
“I know folks probably weren’t happy with the noise this morning but the four warriors are safe on deck and that’s a good thing,’’ he said.
