Cambridge police urge women to be on alert after two robberies

Cambridge police are warning residents to be cautious after two women were robbed and assaulted early this week.

A woman in her 20s was wearing headphones while walking alone between 1:30 and 2 a.m. Sunday on Kirkland Street near Trowbridge Street when she was thrown to the ground by a man and knocked unconscious, police said.

The robber stole her iPhone and purse.

At about 11:15 p.m. Monday, another woman in her 20s was assaulted by a man on the corner of Ellery and Harvard streets while walking alone with her headphones on. He stole her iPhone, police said.

The attacks occured about a half-mile mile apart, near the main Cambridge Library, and may have been committed by the same suspect, police said.

Police are warning women not to listen to music when walking alone at night and to walk with friends as much as possible.
