Family of missing BC student Franco Garcia to hold vigil at East Boston church

The family of missing Boston College student Franco Garcia, who went missing early last Wednesday, is holding a vigil today from 4 to 6 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in East Boston.

“It’s a very sad situation because nobody knows where this man is,’’ said Father Oscar Martin, pastor of the parish at 404 Sumner Street.

Martin said he does not know the family personally, but many of his parishioners who are members of the Peruvian community do know them.

Garcia was last seen early Feb. 22 after a night out with friends at Mary Ann’s bar in Cleveland Circle. Security camera footage from a nearby Citizens Bank showed him walking alone toward the BC campus at 12:18 a.m.

State police divers spent four days last week searching the nearby Chestnut Hill Reservoir but did not find anything relevant to the investigation, State Police spokesman David Procopio said Friday.

The family is also working with a private investigator, Justin Billard, who is searching the area with a bloodhound.

Garcia, 21, is studying chemistry at BC, where he also plays in the symphonic and marching bands. He also works as a pharmacy technician at a CVS in Waltham. He lives with his parents in West Newton.
