BU’s Maggie Kimball wins Redstone top prize

Redstone Film Festival winner Maggie Kimball celebrates with her parents, Jill and Neal Kimball, of Orlando, Fla. (Vernon Doucette/ Boston University)

If the past is a predictor of future success, Maggie Kimball is going places. The BU senior’s comedy, “Entrapped,’’ won first place in the school’s annual Redstone Film Festival. Kimball wrote and directed the film about a young woman’s attempts to ditch her boyfriend. Many of the winners (and finalists) of the festival, which is sponsored by Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone, have gone on to bigger and better things. Past winners include directors Gary Fleder (“Runaway Jury’’), Joe Roth (“Christmas With the Cranks’’), and Lauren Ivy Chiong (“Testament’’), producer Richard Gladstein (“Finding Neverland’’), writer/director Robert Patton-Spruill (“Squeeze’’ and “Body Count’’), and screenwriters Scott Rosenberg (“Beautiful Girls’’) and Steve Brill (“The Mighty Ducks.’’)
