Church receives offers of help to repair decapitated Jesus statue

After a statue of Jesus was decapitated and knocked over this weekend, church officials said today that a number of people have reached out to offer their help in repairing or replacing the effigy.

“A few people have called, but the insurance guy has to look at it today to see if it can be repaired,’’ the Rev. Jack Ahern, of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta at St. Margaret’s church in Dorchester, said.

Ahern said that when he arrived at the church early Sunday morning, he found the statue without its head and knocked partially off its stand.

“The head was to its side in multiple pieces. It’s almost like he whacked the head first, and then pushed it off its base,’’ Ahern said Tuesday.
