Steven Tyler ready for another season of ‘Idol’
Steven Tyler is raring to go for his second season on “American Idol.’’ Addressing the TV Critics Association in Pasadena over the weekend, the Aerosmith singer said the Fox show, which premieres Jan. 18, has been a boon to his band. “It’s brought nothing but younger kids to our music,’’ Tyler said during a panel discussion with fellow judges Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson, host Ryan Seacrest, and the show’s producers. He said show has helped raise his already-considerable profile even higher and that will benefit the band when it finishes its next record. (He said the first season of “Idol’’ goosed Aerosmith’s sales by 260 percent.) “It’s been nothing but good. So, all in all, we just need a new album, which we are working on right now, to use this whole thing and make it be a well-oiled machine,’’ he said. Tyler and Lopez also bantered about their respective fashion styles, with Tyler quipping of JLo: “I’ve always wanted to get in her pants, and every now and then she lets me — to wear them.’’ Chatting with Tyler afterward, we were struck by the brilliance of the singer’s teeth, which were damaged recently in a much-publicized fall in a hotel in Paraguay. “They fixed ’em real good,’’ he said, smiling. And for that new Aerosmith LP, Tyler told us about half of it has been written. “Joe [Perry] gets to town next week. But what I’ve listened to so far just knocked me out. I know a good song. I know what’s going to get played on the radio. I’m not that pretentious to say I think we’ve got hits, but I think we’ve got something. And that’s all that matters.’’ SARAH RODMAN
