David O. Russell will not be charged
Director David O. Russell, who earned an Oscar nod for “The Fighter,’’ will not be charged in connection with a bizarre incident involving his 19-year-old transgender niece. According to TMZ – of course – the niece, who was born male but is in the pre-operative phase of her transition, told Florida police that Russell, who is not related to her by blood, put his hands under her shirt during a workout session at a hotel gym Dec. 30. She said the incident made her “uncomfortable.’’ Russell, meanwhile, told police it was consensual. A rep for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office told TMZ yesterday the investigation is done and the case is closed. Russell, whose credits include “I Heart Huckabees’’ and “Three Kings,’’ has two films in production: “Nailed’’ with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel and “The Silver Linings Playbook’’ with Bradley Cooper. Next up is a sequel to “The Fighter.’’
