Buddy Roemer buys TV ad time in New Hampshire

As the Republican presidential candidates begin to flood the airwaves in advance of the New Hampshire primary, former Louisiana Governor Buddy Roemer is the latest to buy TV time in the hopes of boosting his long-shot candidacy.

Roemer’s campaign is spending $100,000 for three 30-second ads, which will air on WMUR for the next few weeks.

As of Sept. 30, Roemer had raised just $186,000 and contributed another $45,000 to his campaign. The campaign’s New Hampshire state director Chris Buck said Roemer expects to qualify for public funding, and the money behind the ads will be a combination of public funds and donations. (Many of the more well-known candidates decline public funding because it places limits on campaign spending.)

Roemer, who has not been invited to any debates, decided recently to run for the nomination of Americans Elect, which is trying to put a third, split-party ticket, on the ballot. He has focused his campaign on New Hampshire, with a platform of campaign finance reform.

One ad will be a remake of this campaign web video, which shows Roemer meeting with voters and touts his experience and his refusal to take money from political action committees or special interests. Another ad will be a New Hampshire-focused remake of his 1987 gubernatorial ad listing the bureaucrats he angered by pledging to reform government.
