Lionel Richie receives Gomes award at Harvard
Harvard must have strict rules about dancing on the ceiling because Lionel Richie’s feet were firmly on the floor as he received the 2011 Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award from the Harvard Foundation. The former Commodore, who’s had countless hits over his long career, was the author – with Michael Jackson – of “We Are the World,’’ which raised money for famine relief in Africa. “Reverend Gomes would be proud of the selection of Lionel Richie,’’ said Dr. S. Allen Counter, director of the Harvard Foundation. The award honors the life and work of the Rev. Peter J. Gomes, the late minister at the Memorial Church at Harvard.
