Two-alarm fire damages South Boston building; eight people displaced
An early morning fire heavily damaged a South Boston building, displacing eight people, according to the Boston Fire Department.
The fire at 24 West Broadway was discovered about 12:46 a.m. and eventually grew to a two-alarm blaze. Flames were visible in the rear of the building when the first firefighters arrived.
The four-story building houses a Dunkin’ Donuts store on the first floor and five apartments on the upper three floors, according to the department.
Investigators concluded an electrical short circuit on the third floor was the cause. Damage was estimated at $400,000.
The Red Cross was notified about the displaced residents.
No injuries were reported.
