Job openings rise in Mass., New England

The number of new job openings in Massachusetts has increased 9 percent so far this year over last year, according to a report released today (Nov. 1) by the Boston recruiting software firm Bullhorn. The news is even better around New England, with Vermont experiencing a 53 percent jump in open jobs, Maine up 33 percent, New Hampshire rising 25 percent, and Rhode Island increasing 19 percent.

The Northeast as a whole, however, had the lowest uptick in job gains of any region in the country, rising just 12 percent over last year – the same percent increase as the Southeast. The hottest job markets in the country – at least compared to last year — are in the Midwest, which is up 37 percent, followed by the Southwest with 30 percent and the West with 26 percent. Across the country, new job openings are up 21 percent over last year.
