Perry assembles 26-person steering committee for his N.H. campaign
Despite a late entrance into the race, Texas Governor Rick Perry has gotten support from a number of influential New Hampshire politicos.
Perry today released a 26-person New Hampshire steering committee, which New Hampshire senior adviser Paul Young said “will serve as the nucleus for the first-rate political organization we are building in New Hampshire.’’
Among others, the group includes: Former US Senator Gordon Humphrey; former congressional candidate Sean Mahoney; deputy speaker of the New Hampshire House Pam Tucker; former ambassador to the United Nations Joseph Petrone; former New Hampshire Supreme Court Justice Chuck Douglas; New Hampshire House Majority Whip Pete Silva; former consul general to Bermuda Gregory Slayton; and former gubernatorial nominee John Stephen.
Perry will need a strong group of local supporters to compete with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, who campaigned in New Hampshire four years ago, and has maintained his connections with New Hampshire activists and donors since then.
