Gisele Bundchen warned for speeding on Cape Cod

Gisele Bundchen, the wife of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, was issued a verbal warning on Saturday after she was stopped for speeding on Route 6 in Barnstable, State Police said today.

Bundchen was driving a Cadillac SUV Saturday afternoon when she was stopped by Trooper Michael Hopper for driving 70 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone, said State Police spokesman David Procopio. Two children, properly secured, were in the SUV at the time, Procopio said.

Hopper gave Bundchen a verbal warning instead of a speeding ticket, Procopio said. He said the supermodel did not receive special treatment.

“They had a brief discussion and the trooper reminded her that the speed limit is 55 and gave her a warning and sent her on her way,’’ Procopio said.

He said Bundchen did not mention her husband during the conversation. “There was no ‘I’m Tom Brady’s wife,’ ’’ he said.

He said Hopper pulled over 25 drivers Saturday and gave verbal warnings to five drivers, including Bundchen. The others were cited for traffic violations in addition to speeding, Procopio said. The traffic stop was first reported by the Boston Herald.

“She received the same treatment as the other four drivers who were stopped under similar circumstances,’’ Procopio said. “She was slightly over the speed limit. There was no other dangerous behavior. There were no lane violations, no swerving, no aggressive driving – just driving too fast.’’

Asked about reports that Bundchen had given the trooper an autograph, Procopio said, “No, not that I am aware of,’’ he said. “There was no citation to be autographed. It was a verbal warning.’’
