Mullen, a large Boston-based ad agency, said that Alex Leikikh has been promoted to the position of president of the agency’s headquarters office.

Leikikh, who will lead the day-to-day operations of Mullen’s Boston headquarters office, takes over the president’s title from Joe Grimaldi. Grimaldi, who had held the titles of president and chief executive, will now become chairman and chief executive.

Grimaldi has been with Mullen for 28 years, assuming the role of president 14 years ago. When Mullen was bought by Interpublic Group of Cos. in 1999, he added the title of chief executive. In his chairman/chief executive role, he will set strategies for Mullen and continue to be its key agency liaison with Interpublic, Mullen said.

Leikikh joined Mullen in 2009 as managing partner and the director of account service. An agency press release credited Leikikh with playing a key role in landing such accounts as shoe-and-apparel retailer Zappos, JetBlue Airways, and the Nook line of e-readers from retailer Barnes & Noble; Leikikh has also worked on mulitple assignments for the search engine Google Inc.

Besides Boston, Mullen operates offices in North Carolina, Detroit, and Pittsburgh.
