The visit comes as New Hampshire Democrats are working to counter the anti-President Obama message put out by the Republican presidential candidates visiting the first-in-the-nation primary state.
In an email being sent to New Hampshire Democrats this morning, Schultz begin to challenge that message by accusing the Republican candidates of threatening to “dismantle’’ Social Security.
Republican candidate Rick Perry, the Texas governor, has called Social Security a “Ponzi scheme.’’ Candidate Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, has disagreed with that characterization but has said he would reform Social Security, including by allowing people to put some of their payroll deductions into private retirement accounts.
Schultz wrote in her email to New Hampshire Democrats, “One candidate, Rick Perry, was honest about his hostility toward Social Security while the other, Mitt Romney, was not. Don’t let that fool you. Mitt Romney’s support for privatizing Social Security is as dangerous to the future of the program as Rick Perry’s attitude and over the top rhetoric.’’
The state committee is annual event where Democratic Party members will vote on proposed changes to the constitution and bylaws.
There will be also be workshops and training to empower activists to elect Democrats across the state.
Schultz is a Democratic member of the US House from Florida.
