Tom Werner’s class reunion update
Harvard’s class of 1971 has released its 40th Anniversary Report, and thanks to Red Sox co-owner Tom Werner, it’s a pretty entertaining read. The 1971 grad’s update for his peers includes some funny comments about soccer fans (Werner and John Henry’s Fenway Sports Group acquired Liverpool Football Club last year), his hockey expertise, and the hamburger named after him at Mr. Bartley’s Burger Cottage. Werner writes of the burger, “… a couple of years ago, Bartley’s named a burger after me, and I joined a roster that included President Faust and President Obama. It is a surreal experience to have lunch there and hear the waiters shout to the cooks, ‘Three Tom Werners, medium rare.’’ The hamburger in my name is a simple one, with cheddar cheese and bacon. … It occurred to me last week that I must have replaced someone who earlier owned that popular combination. I discovered that indeed the bacon and cheese burger used to be a Joe Lieberman.’’ Lieberman went to Yale. The class of ‘71 has its big reunion party later this month.
