Brookline-bred Jane Alexander portrays Queen Elizabeth II
Boston-bred actress Jane Alexander in the Halmarkl Channel’s “William & Catherine: A Royal Romance.’’
Brookline-bred actress Jane Alexander isn’t the first person to play Queen Elizabeth II. In fact, she’s a huge fan of Helen Mirren’s performance in “The Queen.’’ But Alexander promises that her take on the character will be different than the others. Alexander, who grew up in Brookline and attended Beaver Country Day School, says that when the Hallmark Channel’s “William & Catherine: A Royal Romance’’ premieres Saturday, you’ll see a unique side of the British matriarch. “It was so specifically about the queen as a mother and grandmother and her backstage life as it were,’’ Alexander told us yesterday from her part-time home in Nova Scotia. Alexander also told us that playing a monarch is difficult, but agreed that it’s more complicated to fake a Boston accent. “A British accent is a lot easier,’’ she said, with a laugh. “I admire the Afflecks. They know the real sound.’’ Makes sense. They’re our royals, after all.
