After stint with Pawlenty, Weber rejoins Romney

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney today became the latest to pick up support from a staffer of former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who withdraw from the GOP’s nominating campaign last week.

Romney announced that former US Representative Vin Weber, a Minnesotan who co-chaired Pawlenty’s campaign, will serve as a senior member of his policy team, advising him on foreign and economic issues.

Weber headed the group during Romney’s 2008 presidential campaign, serving as the former Massachusetts governor’s policy chairman. This cycle, he initially eschewed Romney and backed his homestate governor.

Weber served in Congress from 1981 to 1993, and was a regional chairman for President George W. Bush’s campaign in 2004. He is a managing partner at Clark & Weinstock, a lobbying and public relations firm in Washington.

“It is an honor to again work with Mitt Romney,’’ Weber said in a statement, “After three years of failed policies, Mitt Romney’s record of leadership is what we need to strengthen the country both at home and abroad.’’

Romney called Weber a “trusted adviser.’’

Locally, Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman was the first to announce a Pawlenty staffer pickup – as Sarah Crawford Stewart, Pawlenty’s New Hampshire campaign director, became Huntsman’s New Hampshire senior adviser last week.

Romney today also announced the endorsement of former New Hampshire State Senate President Tom Eaton, who will introduce the candidate today at a town hall meeting in Keene.

The Globe first noted that Eaton was supporting Romney two weeks ago, when Eaton attended an event with Romney’s wife, Ann Romney.
