Romney relying on Mass. fundraisers

With the fundraising quarter drawing to a close, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has been relying on a finance team in Massachusetts with at least 23 members, including Romney’s former Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey.

Each member of the committee has committed to being involved with a major fundraiser for Romney, an indication that he will rely on his home state for organizational support. The fundraising team, described as a “partial list,’’ was included in a memo obtained by the Globe. It was written to the finance committee members by Spencer Zwick, Romney’s national finance chairman.

The first Massachusetts fundraiser was held June 2, with another event planned for tonight. Romney has already established much of his national finance team, and will likely do the same in individual states.

Among those on the list of Massachusetts committee members are Healey, who was the Republican nominee for governor in 2006; former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan; GOP fundraiser Chris Collins; former Massachusetts Republican Party Chairman Darrell Crate; Staples founder Tom Stemberg; and Bob White, part-owner of the Boston Celtics and one of Romney’s early partners at Bain Capital who has remained a close friend of Romney’s.
