Dunkin’ teams up with Captain America, unveils star-shaped donut
The company that operates the Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins chains unveiled its first-ever partnership with a motion picture studio, and one result will be a Captain America-themed cherry-flavored Coolata drink and an array of super-hero inspired ice cream flavors.
And let’s not forget star-shaped donuts. The new items celebrate “Captain America: The First Avenger,’’ a movie from Marvel Studios that is scheduled to arrive in theaters July 22, said Canton-based Dunkin’ Brands Inc. While the movie’s release is a ways away, Captain America menu offerings are set to begin arriving at participating restaurants June 27.
Dunkin’ Brands is the corporate parent of Dunkin’ Donuts, a chain focused on coffee and baked goods, and Baskin-Robbins, a chain of ice cream parlors.
Part of the marketing program includes Dunkin’ Donuts first-ever star-shaped donut. According to the chain, its Captain America Donut is filled with jelly, frosted with vanilla icing, and topped with patriotic red, white, and blue sprinkles.
Meanwhile, at sister chain Baskin-Robbins, one new item is the Captain America Ice Cream Cake. Inspired by Captain America’s signature shield, this offering is a “classic sheet cake customized with your favorite ice cream and cake flavors along with a collectable Captain America Cake Topper,’’ Dunkin’ Brands said.
In a statement, John Costello, chief global marketing and innovation officer at Dunkin’ Brands, added, “We believe our partnership with Marvel Studios is ideal, as we not only combine our iconic brands with one of the most enduring and beloved action heroes, but we bring together the coolest movie of the summer and the destination for cool summer beverages and treats for millions of people.’’
