Patrick heading to N.H. for fund-raiser

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is heading north of the border next month for a fund-raiser on behalf of New Hampshire Democrats.

“With the GOP’s devastating state spending plan about to passed in just hours, it is clear that the people are on our side,’’ party Chairman Raymond Buckley wrote in an email today.

“Time and again, we have seen that New Hampshire citizens have had enough with proposals that would hurt working families, damage our public schools and safety, and leave our children and seniors out in the cold. But there is still much more to do, and we must keep the pressure on,’’ he added.

Left unsaid was whether Patrick would discuss the Massachusetts universal health care law, which has helped insure 98 percent of state residents but has been a point of criticism for one of his predecessors: Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney.

Patrick has lauded Romney’s role in creating the 2006 law, but that has been a source of indigestion for the former governor. He is trying to dismiss comparisons between the Massachusetts program and its federal counterpart signed into law last year by President Obama.

The fund-raiser will honor New Hampshire House Democratic Leader Terie Norelli and New Hampshire Senate Democratic Leader Sylvia Larsen, who Buckley said “are fighting every day to push back against the GOP’s reckless agenda!’’

It will be held July 19 at the party’s headquarters in Concord, N.H.

Patrick was visiting Philadelphia today for a fund-raiser on behalf of his own state political action committee as well as his federal political action committee, which he plans to tap to campaign on Obama’s behalf next year.
