Pawlenty – Mary, that is – visiting N.H.

A Pawlenty is returning to New Hampshire next week – and it’s not Tim, the former Minnesota governor and Republican presidential candidate.

Tim Pawlenty’s wife, Mary Pawlenty, will be speaking on Monday at a Nashua Area Federated Republican Women luncheon in Nashua, N.H. It will honor former Republican congressional candidate Jennifer Horn as the organization’s “Woman of the Year.’’

In addition to the public luncheon, Pawlenty will privately thank her husband’s staff, and may hold private meetings with activists, according to Pawlenty spokesman Rich Killion.

Pawlenty could not play an active role in her husband’s previous campaigns because she was a sitting District Court judge in Minnesota – a position she held from 1994 to 2007.

Now, Pawlenty is becoming a presence on the campaign trail.

She visited New Hampshire with her husband in March, and was also in the state last summer. Killion said her travel will be limited only by the need to minimize the impact on the couple’s two teenage daughters.

Pawlenty is not the only presidential candidate’s spouse already on the trail.

Last week, Mary Kaye Huntsman stood next to her husband, former Utah governor Jon Huntsman, as he campaigned in New Hampshire.

Huntsman praised his wife then as the “greatest, finest human being I’ve ever known.’’

Mary Pawlenty may get a more steamy moniker: In Iowa last year, Tim Pawlenty called her “my red-hot smoking wife.’’
