Dozens of cars were vandalized in Quincy over the weekend, police said.

The Quincy Police Department received multiple reports on Saturday detailing numerous vandalized cars in North Quincy, the department said in a Facebook post.

More than 30 vehicles were damaged, police said.

The defaced vehicles were parked in North Quincy at 133 Commander Shea Blvd., 165 and 175 Quincy Shore Drive, 2 Hancock St., and Newbury Avenue by Oakridge Road, according to the post.

August Sprino, who lives in North Quincy apartment complex Hamilton Bay, told Boston.com she approached her car around 8:45 a.m. Saturday and saw that it was damaged.

“I walked up to my car and I went around the driver’s side and I saw the scratches all over my driver’s door and driver’s window,” Sprino said. “And I was just like, ‘Oh my God.’”

As Sprino called her father and then the police, she noticed that other cars parked around hers, in the apartment’s outdoor parking lot, had “the same treatment.”

“I think it ended up being a total of eight cars, including mine, that all had the scratches on just the driver’s window and door,” she said.

Sprino said she and her husband were not sure what tool had been used to damage the cars, and speculated if it was a rock or a spark plug, due to the depth of the etching in the glass.

Similar vehicle vandalism incidents have occurred in North Quincy in past years.

In June 2018, Quincy police reported that more than 35 cars were broken into. In August 2018, they requested the public’s help to identify the potential suspect, a man in a camouflage baseball hat.

On August 18, 2018, there were 18 reported car break-ins, with the vehicles’ windows smashed in.

The Quincy police are asking the public to contact Detective Michael Eddy with any photo or video footage of Saturday’s incident.

Eddy can be reached at 617-745-5771 or [email protected].
