After a year of virtual celebrations due to COVID-19 in 2020, First Night Boston 2022 will offer in-person New Year’s Eve festivities featuring fireworks, ice sculptures, parades, and performances.
The 12-plus hours of entertainment in Boston’s Downtown and Back Bay neighborhoods start at noon on Dec. 31, and will be centered around Copley Square.
All of the time-honored First Night favorites will be returning, with ice sculptures spread around the city, fireworks at 7 p.m. and midnight, and musical performances at Copley Square, Boston Public Library, Copley Place, Boston Common, and surrounding churches, according to First Night Boston 2022 spokesman T.K. Skenderian.
“We’re back, and we’re excited about it,” Skenderian told Boston.com. “Hopefully we get a great turnout and great weather.”
First Night Boston 2022 plans to follow all all city and state COVID-19 safety precautions — including mandatory mask wearing at indoor venues — and will adjust accordingly if safety regulations change prior to New Year’s Eve.
A full schedule for the day’s festivities will be released in the coming weeks, which will be posted at firstnightboston.org.
